My approach:
I work an integrative way, which means that I will use a variety of therapeutic approaches to inform our work together.
My original training is in Cognitive Psychology and Humanistic Counselling, but I have additional qualifications in Mindful Self Compassion and Motherhood Studies, so I share tools and insights from these perspectives. I also work as a Birthing and Early Postpartum Practitioner, so I have extensive experience and background in these subjects, including a trauma-informed approach to birth and breastfeeding. I am currently completing certification as a Somatic Coach in order to provide a more body-based perspective and embodied strategies for healing and change.
This means that I can offer you both space to reflect upon where any current issues in your life have come from, and help you to establish new ways of dealing with those issues.
Throughout our sessions, I aim to offer empathy (putting myself in your shoes), acceptance (a non-judgemental attitude), and congruence (being honest with myself and with you) in our relationship. My role is not to tell you what to do, although I may give information or offer suggestions. My role is to help you explore and find confidence in your own ideas, values and beliefs.
Confidentiality:
Everything you share with me in the course of our work together will be treated as confidential.
However, there are a couple of limits to confidentiality, which you need to be aware of:
In accordance with the ethical framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I am required to undertake supervision. Supervision sessions are to allow me to gain support and guidance in my work and also to check that I am working ethically and competently. When I discuss the work that I am doing with you, I will only refer to you by your first name in order to keep your identity anonymous.
I may be legally or ethically obliged to break confidentiality, for example, where I consider your welfare or the welfare of others to be seriously at risk. Wherever possible, I will consult with you before breaching confidentiality.
Sessions:
Normally we will meet for a 60 minute session at an agreed time. If you are late to arrive to the session, the time cannot be extended.
Cancellations: If for any reason I have to cancel a session I will aim to provide you with 48 hours' notice, and you will be refunded for the session, minus processing fees. Wherever possible I will offer you an alternative time.
Likewise, I would appreciate that you give me 48 hours' notice if you are unable to attend. Wherever possible I will offer you an alternative time.
I offer refunds (minus any payment processing fees) for appointments missed due to illness or unforeseen circumstances provided you give me at least 48 hours' notice. However, a full session fee is payable if you give less than 48 hours’ notice.
Clients must log in to their account, find the booking, and reschedule before the 48-hour window expires.
Email / telephone / social media:
Contact in between sessions will be limited to practical arrangements and any follow up materials I may send.
I do not accept friend requests on social media, as this can compromise the confidential and therapeutic nature of our working relationship
Ending sessions:
You can decide to stop coming to sessions at any time, but, if possible, please let me know in advance and we can arrange an ending session.
If I feel that sessions are no longer appropriate for you (e.g. because you want to bring issues that fall outside of my professional competence), I will discuss this with you and may suggest you discontinue, or offer to refer you to someone who can help.
Continued Clarity – 6 x 1:1 Therapeutic Life Coaching for Mothers
What is Continued Clarity?
A series of 6 sessions designed to help you develop fresh insights and make positive changes in areas of your life you’d like to work on. This is ideal if you have an ongoing situation or more complex issue that you would like to unpack and talk through.
I provide space to explore what is going on and gentle guidance to help you figure out the next steps to take. Continuing beyond a single session gives us the chance to build a supportive relationship and sufficient space to do deeper work together. I provide an individualised summary of what we cover and your desired outcomes after the initial session, and share a toolkit of resources to support you throughout the process.
Examples of issues that clients have brought to a series of sessions with me include:
* Difficulty transitioning into motherhood
* Questioning your identity
* Reparenting yourself
* Establishing clear boundaries with family members
* Processing feelings of guilt following postnatal depression
* Learning how to manage big emotions and be less reactive
* Parenting a highly sensitive child
* Managing conflict with your partner
* Coping with competing demands of home, work, relationships, and parenting
Across the course of several coaching sessions, we can address one issue in greater depth, or talk about multiple topics that come up as we work together. We will typically meet weekly or bi-weekly at a regular agreed time, although some clients prefer to have monthly sessions.
What is different about Clarity sessions with me?
Many of us spend a lot of time in our heads, and this doesn’t always allow for new understanding to emerge about a problem or issue. Instead, we can get stuck ruminating about how things could be different, but still find ourselves reverting back to old patterns and ways of relating to ourselves and others. Similarly, your experience of talking therapy may have been that it is helpful to share what’s on your mind, but going over the same ground does not always enable fresh insights to emerge. My belief is that each of us have our own answers, but we don’t always know how to access this wisdom beneath layers of social conditioning or a self-critical internal voice. We often need some help knowing how to regulate our frazzled nervous systems to clear a way towards that deep inner knowing. That’s where I come in. My training and background includes Psychotherapy, Coaching, Mindfulness and Body-based approaches, so I know it’s import to have space to unpack and process past events, but it is also vitally important to have a sense of hope and direction going forward. I work in a trauma sensitive way with a respect for whatever patterns have kept you safe and functioning up to this point. My approach looks at what you bring in the here and now, and uses gentle ways to access the wisdom of your whole self (your body-mind) in coming to a different understanding about your issue or problem. I bring both a deep understanding of Cognitive Psychology and Somatic Awareness. So this means I sometimes work at the level of reframing thoughts and behavior. At other times I may guide you towards a more embodied way of processing your thoughts and emotions using breath work, guided relaxation, simple movement, mindfulness and self compassion.
This means that I consider your needs as a whole person, helping you to access levels of insight about your situation that may unlock a different way of dealing with it.
Come and find your own clarity about whatever is troubling you, with gentle support and guidance from me.
