Description

Welcome to Slowlife Family Farm

Join Carlo and Jessie for a hands-on journey into Sicilian food, family, and tradition at their off-grid organic farm near Noto.

Set beside a river in one of Sicily’s beautiful canyons, the farm brings together organic gardening, traditional cooking, local history, and the pleasure of sharing food around a table. Over approximately five hours, you’ll help gather ingredients, prepare a meal, and experience the generous spirit of a traditional Sicilian family lunch.

From the Garden to the Table

Your experience begins in the organic garden, where you’ll discover seasonal vegetables, local varieties, and the farm’s approach to protecting Sicily’s food heritage.

Depending on the season, you may harvest fresh produce and edible plants to use in the day’s meal. Carlo and Jessie will share their knowledge of growing food, preserving ingredients, and working with nearby producers of wheat, olive oil, cheese, and wine.

Mill Wheat and Make Ravioli

Visit the farm’s restored water mill and learn about Sicily’s long relationship with wheat and flour.

You’ll grind organic wheat and take part in a ravioli-making workshop, learning traditional techniques that you can bring home to your own kitchen. Everyone helps clean, chop, prepare, and cook the meal together.

Taste the Flavors of Sicily

Throughout the experience, you’ll taste ingredients from the farm and surrounding area. These may include organic vegetables, olive oil, cheeses, preserves, and Sicilian wine.

You’ll also take part in a traditional wine toast inspired by customs passed down through generations.

Share a Sicilian Family Feast

Once the cooking is complete, everyone gathers around the table for a relaxed communal lunch.

This is more than a conventional cooking class. It is an invitation into the rhythm of Sicilian family life, where food, stories, laughter, and conversation are shared generously.

Discover the Farm’s Ancient History

The farm stands on land that has been considered significant for more than 2,500 years. Archaeological discoveries include altars associated with ancient Greek and Roman activity.

During your visit, your hosts will introduce you to the farm’s history and show you how the landscape connects its ancient past with the life of the farm today.

Swim in the River

The farm sits beside a clear river and natural swimming area. When conditions allow, you’ll have an opportunity to swim or relax beside the water after cooking and lunch.

Bring a swimsuit, towel, dry clothes, drinking water, sun protection, and insect repellent. Long pants may also be useful around the garden.
