Influence for Positive Impact: Conversation Coaching (Single Session)

Do you need to:

– Make a big request at work or in your personal life?
– Strengthen an important relationship?
– Inspire someone to perform at a higher level?

Being able to successfully influence others, with or without formal authority, is one of the most important assets we humans can develop in our careers and our personal lives. To move metaphorical mountains requires some important skills, behaviors, and mindsets. This isn’t just our opinion at BIG Acts1. It’s based on the research of many wise souls over the years.

In addition to resilience and curiosity, research demonstrates that influencing skills are one of the most critical yet underappreciated skills out there.

If you want to lead change that drives significant positive impact, you must be able to influence others. Other skills are also very important and yet influence rises to the top as one of THE most important skills.

During one focused session, Coach Becca will review some principles of 1:1 influence conversations with you. She will then coach you through preparation for an important conversation with a specific person. Finally, she will then practice key elements of that conversation with you with the goal of improving each round.

Undoubtedly, you will leave better prepared and more confident for an important, and possibly life-changing, conversation.

Coach Becca’s clients have found that the process of clarification and repeated rounds of short practice are powerful. They gain confidence in using the principles. Clients are thinking deeply about the situation, and practicing conversational elements during and after a coaching session. They have the benefit of a neutral observer serving as thought partner as they subsequently refine their communication approach.

A few testimonials:

“I had not made the direct connection to the role influence plays professionally (as I’ve assumed a common vision with my colleagues as an educator). I now see value in establishing an intentional process to prepare for conversations, regardless of who is the stakeholder.” –- Administrator in a large public school district

“Now I understand the need to practice these ‘soft’ (critically important to relationships) skills. And that they can be trained/ improved. (My time with Becca) really reinforced the importance of practice and helped me feel like I could improve my ability to influence.” –- Marketing executive at a young technology company

“It has made me rethink how I will prepare for conversations in the future.” –- Data scientist in the energy industry

As with most of life, there are no guarantees when something is out of our direct control. Yet we can tip the scales in our favor by being very intentional about how we prepare for important conversations with others. And with each important conversation that we prepare well for and practice appropriately, we enhance our influence skills increasing the likelihood that we’ll be more successful in the future!

This service is offered as a 1:1 single coaching session, as well as a package of 3 sessions. A package might be better for you if you know you have a high stakes conversation that you are planning for and/or would find an accountability partner useful as you prepare for a significant meeting.

Why an accountability partner?
– Research shows that, on average, we achieve a goal within our control 6-8% of the time if we set a clear goal.
– If we write that clear goal down, the chance of success increases to 25-30%.
– If we set it, write it down, and share it with someone we respect, our success rate increases to 55-60%.
– Finally, if set it, write it down, and share it with someone who holds us accountable, our success rate increases to an impressive 85%+.
