Experience Kyrgyzstan with local nomadic families

The horse trek operates in partnership with families who spend their summers tending livestock in the mountains.

Each day, the group rides between seasonal yurt camps. Your hosts provide accommodation, meals and an opportunity to learn about life in the Pamir-Alay region.

Conditions are simple and communal. Yurts generally accommodate five or six guests. Hotels in Osh use twin-share rooms unless you purchase an optional single-room supplement.

This trip offers close contact with the landscape and its communities. It also requires flexibility, respect for your hosts and comfort with basic facilities.

What to expect on the trail

The horseback portion follows mountain streams, forested valleys, exposed ridgelines and steep passes. Daily riding times range from approximately four to six hours, with distances of 12 to 14 kilometres on the detailed riding days.

You will climb and descend on narrow mountain trails. Pack horses carry the expedition equipment, while local horsemen and guides support the group.

Mobile coverage may be unavailable for much of the journey. The route, timing and camps can change with weather, trail conditions, the horses or the needs of the group.
