People have been using breathwork to deal with stress and enhance their mood for thousands of years.
Neurodynamic breathwork is a modern take on this ancient practice, using various breathing patterns and science to alter your brainwave states.
But what are the benefits of neurodynamic breathwork and how do neurodynamic breathwork online classes work? We’ve explained everything you need to know below.

What Is Neurodynamic Breathwork?
The point of breathwork is to enter a meditative state by narrowing your focus to just the breath.
Neurodynamic breathwork differs from breathwork as it focuses on patterned breathing to help you alter your brainwaves and access the subconscious part of your mind.
Neurodynamic deeper breathing can also be paired with an energy healing session. The music strengthens the focus and helps to build a deeper connection with the unconscious mind while fostering personal growth and relief from anxiety.

What Are The Benefits Of Neurodynamic Breathwork?
By using neurodynamic methods, you can tap into the many potential benefits of breathwork.
Many breathwork clients report physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits when doing neurodynamic breathwork online classes.
Some of the benefits to name are –
- Improved mood, focus, and memory
- Deeper relaxation
- Less stress
- Better sleep
- Increased sense of purpose and meaning
- Enhanced creativity
Types of Transformative Experiences During Sessions
Neurodynamic breathwork is a process of travelling deeper into your neural pathways to shift or go beyond the ego mind. The ego mind is the part of consciousness that gives you your sense of self and identity.
You may also experience internal transformations during neurodynamic breathwork. These can include gaining a deeper understanding of who you are and what your purpose is.

Why Is Breathwork So Powerful?
Online breathwork class sessions and practices are so powerful because they essentially balance all areas of your body.
Nearly all types of virtual meditation classes include breathwork as a tool to calm the mind and shift the focus inwards.
As a beginner, focusing on your breath during meditation is key to getting into a deep transformative state.
We have an excellent workshop for breathwork experience if you are new to this technique.
Neurodynamic vs. Holotropic: Know the Difference
One of the most common diaphragmatic breathing practices is the holotropic breathwork technique.
This form of breathwork offers similar benefits to the neurodynamic practice and even uses the same deep breathing techniques to help foster a deeper sense of connection with yourself.
However, holotropic breathwork is more focused on innate wisdom, while neurodynamic techniques are founded on the idea of neuroplasticity, or the brain’s ability to form new neural connections and pathways.
Also, holotropic breathwork happens during in-person workshops, whereas neurodynamic practices can also take place in an online breathwork class.

What Happens In The Brain During Holotropic Breathwork?
Holotropic workshops can take as long as 10 hours to complete, which makes it more difficult to engage in regular breathwork sessions.
This is because, during a holotropic breathwork session you need to go into an almost trance state to get the full benefits.
Neurodynamic breathwork sessions, on the other hand, typically last two to three hours. Not only are they easier to fit into a busy lifestyle, but they’re also more affordable.
The best option for you will depend on your practice preferences — for instance, you may prefer being in your own home and taking an online breathwork class as we have at Plentiful or going to a meditation studio.

How Do Neurodynamic Breathwork Online Classes Work?
Every neurodynamic online breathwork class has a leader, typically called a facilitator.
They’ll guide you through the practice and may emphasize different aspects or themes depending on their background and the nature of the class.
Your experience can also vary according to whether you choose an online class like we have at Plentiful, or an in-person workshop. That being said, most neurodynamic breathwork sessions are split into the following three parts.
- Introduction With the Breathwork Facilitator
Your session will begin with an introduction from your group’s breathwork facilitator.
They’ll introduce themselves, talk about what you’ll get out of the session, and outline how the next two or three hours will go.
2. Breathwork Session With Evocative Music
After a short introduction, you’ll get started with neurodynamic practice.
Your facilitator may give you a pattern of breathing they want you to follow or allow you to breathe however you wish before guiding you through various techniques.
This is also when the session’s accompanying music will start playing.
All you must do is relax, listen to the music, and follow the breathing technique your facilitator guides you through.
Typically, they’ll also spend some time guiding your focus to help you keep your attention on the meditative state. The breathwork portion of your session may last around an hour.
We have an excellent Pain to Power Coaching with Energy Healing combined with music to check out if you’re interested in this type of class.

3. Experience Sharing and Processing
During the third part, the facilitator will call the group back together slowly and gently to let you come out of the meditation.
Then, they’ll give each member of the class the chance to share their experiences.
This sharing aspect is an important part of processing what you gained from the breathwork. You may also learn from what others have to say.
Once everyone has shared and the facilitator has given their closing remarks, the neurodynamic breathwork class will end.
Why Do I Cry During Breathwork?
If you find yourself becoming emotional during a Neurodynamic breathwork online session, this is a very common and normal experience.
Breathwork is a highly personal experience and unique to each person. One of the benefits of neurodynamic breathwork is that it can help you release pent-up emotions and energy, this release can come in the form of crying.
Does Breathwork Release Trauma?
As breathwork can help to move emotions and energy through you, it can aid in understanding and releasing trauma.
This is by engaging in particular breathwork patterns with a practitioner to gain access to your subconscious.
For many, it can take multiple sessions to get to this kind of stage. Holotropic breathwork is often used for this.
Does Deep Breathing Release Emotions?
Deep breathing done in breathwork sessions or throughout your day can help to release tension and relax the body by calming your nervous system.
Since deep breathing is more about relaxation, it can transform your mood into a more meditative state, but we think breathwork tends to be better for emotional release.
