Instincts, Intuition & Learning to Trust Yourself | 1:1 Sessions
Duration: 6 sessions
Weekly sessions – 60 minutes
Required supplies: New Journal
Each session will include a lecture and discussion, writing exercises, meditation and weekly assignments to hone your ability to trust yourself, your intuition and your instincts. Trigger Warning – During Session 1, we will be listening to a story that breaks down the pivotal moments that led up to a trauma and the instincts that ultimately protected them.
Session 1 – Intuition, Instincts and What’s at Stake If We Don’t Listen?
Why is it important to listen to and act on our instincts and our intuition and what’s at stake if we don’t listen? Using the book, The Gift of Fear as reference, we learn how breaking down a moment can elicit valuable information about our current beliefs, intuition and instincts and how acting on our instincts can save our lives. We discuss the various things that cloud our ability to hear and act on our instincts.
Session 2 – Survival Signals / Dangerous Behavior
Using the book, Protecting the Gift as reference, we discuss the seven survival signals we need to become aware of if we are to effectively predict and avoid violence.
Session 3 – Awareness: Recognizing How Fear Manifests in Your Body
What does REAL FEAR feel like in your body and how do you respond? Building on session one and two, we move away from becoming aware of other people’s behavior and we learn how we experience fear. Fear reveals itself in many forms. Writing exercises to distinguish fear, worry and anxiety from real fear, instinct and intuition.
Session 4 – Cloud Layer: Unspoken Agreements / Expectations
What is an Unspoken Agreement and how do they lead to expectations and resentments? In this session we will see how we rationalize, justify and minimize behavior because it doesn’t match what we think and believe. This session’s writing exercises are designed to find your unspoken agreements and how they cloud your ability to trust yourself.
Session 5 – Cloud Layer: The Blame Train
Building on what we learned about Unspoken Agreements and Expectations, we look at how blame and anger keep us from living in reality and how that impacts our ability to recognize instincts, intuition and act on them. When we blame, we hand over our power and we become stuck. Using the book Loving What Is, by Byron Katie, we discuss the power of reframing blame, resentment and judgments into information to empower action.
Session 6 – Cloud Layer: Desires & Our Driving Question
One of the greatest ways we cloud our intuition and instincts is through desire. We all have a driving question that we seek to answer through friendships, relationships & work. Driving questions always get at the essence of who we are, such as: Am I enough? Am I lovable? What is my worth? Where do I belong? In this last session we explore how driving questions inform our decisions and affect our ability to listen to and act on our intuition and instincts. The last class will provide resources and suggest next steps for your journey back to trust yourself.
